Richmond County Schools Join High School Affinity Debit Card Program

posted on

North Augusta, SC - SRP Federal Credit Union is thrilled to announce the addition of Richmond County public schools to our High School Affinity Debit Card program.

The Affinity School Debit Card Program began in 2018 to assist participating area high schools with funding. Each participating high school designs its own card, and every time the card is used, the school receives a donation. The schools are free to use the funds any way they wish, and they receive payments quarterly. These payments have been useful in the counties we serve, where funding has been used for various needs like computers, team uniforms, teacher certifications, incentives for students to improve their grades, and more.

Richmond County joins Aiken, Barnwell, Burke, and Columbia County’s public schools as well as a number of private and charter schools who are part of the program.

“It is always exciting to have schools join the High School Affinity Debit Card program. It is a wonderful way for our members to raise funds for their high school of choice simply by using their High School Affinity Debit card,” states Eric Jenkins, CEO of SRP FCU. “Since the inception of the program in 2018, SRP has given almost $2,000,000 to schools in our community. We look forward to working with the Richmond County school system to quickly grow the program and start providing financial support to the high schools.”

SRP and USCA Team Up for New Financial Program

posted on

North Augusta, SC – SRP Federal Credit Union will fund a new program named the SRP Pacer $mart Program to cultivate financial success for students at the University of South Carolina Aiken.

The purpose of the SRP Pacer $mart Program is to enhance training and financial progression. “The goal is to take students from their current financial knowledge to the next level,” said Dr. Nancy Albers, Dean of the School of Business Administration at USCA. “This partnership allows us to develop a co-branded interactive classroom learning environment. The classroom should be complete by the start of the fall semester and supports teaching with technology and experience. We believe it will facilitate learning and retention for lifelong financial wellbeing.”

USCA’s School of Business Administration has a proven track record of preparing students for professional success, as well as emphasizing the importance of individuals and businesses focused on having a positive community impact,” said SRP FCU’s CEO Eric Jenkins.

As the former CEO of Education Credit Union in Amarillo, Texas, Jenkins said they partnered with West Texas A&M University to offer a similar program for their students. “I was able to witness first-hand how much value was created for students because of the university and credit union collaborating to provide financial success tools,” he said.

SRP FCU regularly works with members that are in challenging financial situations due to mistakes they made early in adulthood. “Through Pacer $mart, we will help students not only avoid these costly types of financial mistakes, but also teach them how to make the right decisions, which will lead to financial success,” Jenkins said.

Pacer $mart will also share financial success content with K-12 students through various programming opportunities including dual enrollment. “This is a great opportunity for the School of Business Administration to step in and help deliver this to the local school systems,” Albers said. “I believe this partnership creates an important and timely program that aligns with the School of Business Administration’s initiatives to provide a positive impact on our community.”

In Spring 2024, the School of Business Administration was able to launch a new personal money management course supporting the program. The course objectives are to teach students tools for personal financial success, including short-term plans, such as successfully paying for their education, and long-term plans, such as owning a home and avoiding excessive debt. Students in the course have the opportunity to achieve an Intuit certification in personal finance.

2024 SRP Inaugural Internship Program

North Augusta, SC – This summer, SRP Federal Credit Union launched an internship program for incoming and current college students that allowed each participant an insight into working in the credit union industry. SRP had fifteen students enrolled in the program, ranging from college freshmen to one recent graduate, who since has accepted a job with SRP.

The interns served in multiple areas, including, Marketing, Information Technology, Human Resources and SRP Branches. Through these opportunities, the interns gained valuable hands-on experience that will better prepare them for future professional opportunities.

SRP Federal Credit Union’s executive team sat down with the inaugural class recently to hear feedback about their time at SRP. Each participant had the chance to share their insights with a particular focus on how to enhance the program for next year’s intern class. At the end of the meeting, the interns were surprised with the announcement that they were each receiving a Microsoft Surface as a ’Thank You Gift’ for their valued contributions to SRP.

“SRP is extremely proud of the college students that participated in our inaugural internship program,” says Eric Jenkins, CEO of SRP Federal Credit Union. “Our hope is they benefitted as much from this opportunity as our members and team members benefitted from the great work they produced. We are very pleased that one of the current program interns became an SRP team member upon graduation and we hope several more will do the same when they complete their college journey. Also, we look forward to working with our next group of interns as the program evolves next year.”

Financial Literacy for Pre-K Students

posted on

Augusta, GA  – For the 2023-2024 academic year, Tawanaca Williams, SRP Federal Credit Union’s Financial Services Engagement Developer, conducted engaging financial literacy sessions with the Tabernacle Baptist Church’s Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) class. As part of this initiative, students were encouraged to save unwrapped Happy Meal toys, receiving $1 for each toy collected. SRP proudly awarded each student with a minimum of $25 for their efforts. Pastor Goodman of Tabernacle Baptist Church also matched SRP’s donations for the students.

Throughout the year, the students learned a special song about money, and it was performed it at their recent graduation ceremony. We believe this collaboration has been immensely beneficial for the students, instilling valuable financial habits from an early age.

“We believe in financial education for every age at SRP,” says Mr. Eric Jenkins, CEO of SRP Federal Credit Union. “Introducing these young students to money and the concept of saving will be useful to them as they grow older. It was a pleasure to partner with Tabernacle Baptist Church’s Pre-K class and to generate excitement as they learned.”

North Augusta, SC – SRP Federal Credit Union hosted its semi-annual Member Appreciation weekend in April, featuring a variety of events.

On Friday, April 19th, Movie Night took place on the Pavilion Lawn at the Administration  Center, showcasing the Super Mario Bros. Movie. A record 236 attendees enjoyed hot dogs straight from the SRP mobile grill, along with popcorn, drinks, and enjoyed additional entertainment such as face painting, balloon animals, a photo booth, light-up toys, and SRP promotional items.

The following day, Saturday, April 20th, saw another record-breaking turnout at Shred Fest, also at the SRP Administration Center. 516 cars were served during the drive-through event, and an impressive 38,880 pounds of paper documents were collected and shredded onsite. Both events were assisted by almost fifty dedicated SRP team-member volunteers who ensured the events ran smoothly and with a friendly smile. The weekend was a huge success and there is already building anticipation for our next Member Appreciation weekend in October.

“The extraordinary community participation for our Member Appreciation weekends continue to grow,” states Eric Jenkins, CEO of SRP Federal Credit Union. “The increasing number of members attending the family-friendly movie night and using the shred service offered attests to a need for these types of events in our area, and SRP is honored to meet these needs.”
